Slovenia - 27th May 2007 - Junior Championships Press Release
Twenty young karate students from the Dunfermline-based Japan Karate Association Scotland battled it out against competitors of some of the strongest European Karate nations in this year's astounding JKA European Championships which took place in Ljubljana, Slovenia, last weekend.
Over 400 competitors from European nations including England, Russia, Belarus, Croatia, Ukraine, Netherlands, Hungary, Bosnia, Poland, Serbia & Montenegro, Czech Republic, Scotland and the host nation, Slovenia, participated in categories such as Individual Kata and Kumite, and also Team Kata and Kumite.
The young students, ranging from age 9 to 18, were selected from a strong JKA Scottish Junior Squad, whose headquarters are based in Dunfermline and from where the students regularly train. They entered the competition with great determination and focus in their bid to become JKA European Champions. Their hard work and dedication certainly paid off as they returned to Scotland with 8 medals:

The Squad were accompanied by their dedicated and hard working coaches and instructors. The vocal support in the crowd was loud and clear from family and friends who also accompanied the squad on the trip.
SKGB Refereeing Commission Karate Officials Training Course (Novice)
The following course has been arranged by the SKGB Refereeing Commission in prelude to the Scottish National Kumite Championships 2007 and as part of the Commissions Development program for 2007/08.
To this end an invitation is extended to Karate Officials who currently hold a qualification as a Kumite Referee or Kumite Judge at association level and who are committed to their self development onto national level.
This course is also open to existing National Officials who require attendance at an SKGB training course to keep their current qualification valid.
Dates: The course will be held on Saturday 18th August 2007. 0930hrs to 1400hrs
Venue: The venue for the course is within the Dakota Hotel Euro Central Shawfoot Road off the M8 Motorway Bellshill Lanarkshire Tel: 01698 835444
Examination: There will be a written exam as part of this course. Officials should attend in full WKF uniform and have with them their SKGB “Karate Officials Record Books”.
Refreshment: Light refreshment will be provided within the hotel. In order that catering numbers as well as any special dietary requirement can be arranged, official’s attendance at this course must be confirmed with the SKGB Refereeing Secretary by the end of July.

SKGB Refereeing Commission Karate Officials Training Course (Tatami Coach)
The following course has been arranged by the SKGB Refereeing Commission in prelude to the Scottish National Kumite Championships 2007 and as part of the Commissions Development program for 2007/08.
To this end an invitation is extended to Qualified Coaches and their assistants who would wish access to the Tatami at any SKGB run event. Dates:

Examination:
There will be no exam as part of this course. Tatami passes will be issued on the day. Two passport style photographs are required. Please bring your SKGB coaches license. If an SKGB coaches licence is not held, participants should have proof of Disclosure Scotland check.
There is no dress code for this course however it should be born in mind that this is a prestigious venue and dress should compliment the professional image of the SKGB.
Refreshment: Tea and coffee will be provided within the hotel. I order that the necessary numbers can be catered for please confirm your attendance at this course prior to the end of July 2007.
