Royal and Government Recognition for Karate

Royal Recognition for Karate

5th July 2007

Mr Miller Executive Administrator received an invitation from Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth and H.R.H Prince Phillip, Duke of Edinburgh to attend a royal reception at The Palace of Holyrood in recognition for his contribution to Scottish life in the development of karate.

At the reception Mr Miller representing Scottish Karate was formally introduced to Her Majesty the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh.

The Chairman Mr Donald MacInnes and the Executive Administrator Mr James A Miller were invited to attend the 3rd opening of the Scottish Parliament on the 30th June. This is the first time that Scottish Karate has been invited to such a prestigious event, in recognition of the development that the Scottish Karate Governing Body has made.

Mr MacInnes represented Scottish Karate at the opening of the Parliament where he was introduced to H.R.H. Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh and Mr Miller took part in the Riding process.

Scottish Karate would like to thank Sportscotland for the nominations.

Association Child Protection Officers

The registration of association Child Protection Officers is now mandatory.

The following criteria must be met for a C.P.O. to be registered.

1.) S.K.G.B. Registration form must be completed and signed by the association chairperson

2.) Have an Enhanced Scottish Criminal Records Office check carried out by the S.K.G.B.

3.) Attend the following workshops:
     Sports Coach U.K.     Good Practise and Child Protection.
     Children 1st                  In Safe Hands.

SKGB Refereeing Commission

Karate Officials Training Course (Kata)

The following course has been arranged by the SKGB Refereeing Commission as part of the Commissions Development program for 2007/08.

To this end an invitation is extended to Karate Officials who currently hold a qualification as an Association Kata Judge or Kata Judge at national level to attend a development/practical assessment.

Dates:

The course will be held on:

Saturday 27th October 2007. 1000hrs until 1600hrs

Venue:

The venue for the course is within the Holiday Inn Edinburgh Corstorphine Edinburgh

Examination:

Practical assessment along with official’s development will be assessed by Terry Pottage 7th Dan WKF Official. There will be a written exam as part of this course available to those officials who require the exam to further their refereeing qualification.

Officials should attend in full WKF uniform and have with them their SKGB “Karate Officials Record Books”.  

Refreshment:

Lunch will be provided at the event.

There will be a  Shobu Ippon Judge/Referee course in reference to the SKGB Shobu Ippon championships being held on Sunday 23rd September.

The course will take place on Saturday 8th September, 2 - 4pm at the

JKA Scotland Honbu Dojo

New Gillespie House

Lynburn Ind' Estate

Dunfermline

KY11 4JT

The course content will be Shobu Ippon rules and clarification of the categories.

We respectfully ask that all associations interested in participating in the championships forward potential judges and referees.
