“It has been agreed by the SKGB Refereeing Commission that the criteria for maintaining SKGB qualifications in both Kumite and Kata require to be modified. With immediate effect a satisfactory pass in theory examination papers for both Kumite and Kata require to be achieved by all currently qualified officials every 2 years. For most officials the last theory examinations were quite some time ago and therefore the date when a theory test pass is required has been set as the end of March 2009 for all officials. Obviously if SKGB (or higher) theory passes in either Kata or Kumite have been achieved at some point since the end of March 2007 then the relative renewal date will be 2 years from the successful pass date. This should only affect those officials who have sat examinations at EKF level or have passed the last Kata Examination with Terry Pottage at the Glasgow Airport Hotel on 23rd February of this year.

The next opportunity to attempt a theory examination will be at the Referee Course scheduled for 4th October 2008 in the Dakota Hotel. All officials eligible for upgrade of their qualifications will be required to sit the relevant theory paper at this time. All other officials, may if they wish, attempt the theory paper at this time also. Please note however that those who do not choose to sit the theory paper at this time will still be eligible to officiate at the upcoming SKGB Championships (assuming they have current PI and ESCRO check in place) as their current qualification will not expire until end of March 2009.”
